Page Rank: Page Rank is a value given to a web page by Google ranging from 1-10. Page Rank is determined primarily by links pointing to a particular web page. Link importance is determined by the type of link and also the number of links pointing to a page. While Google is the only search engine to use Page Rank most search engines have similar programs in place which determine a website’s importance.
Understanding How Page Rank Increases
Put simply, a Page Rank of 10 is high and 1 is low, it is also very possible to have a Page Rank of zero if Google has yet to index your site or if your site is relatively new and has little or no links pointing to it. To grow in Page Rank your site must have various sites pointing to it through links. A page with a high page rank pointing to your site is more important than a link with a lower page rank. Another way to increase your sites Page Rank is to increase the number of pages on your site. This can be accomplished by consistently adding new content to your site and interlinking the new content with other content within your site.
As you increase in Page Rank you may find it becomes increasingly difficult to progress to the next level. Although the exact formula of how Google measures Page Rank is not known the basic idea of having pages link to your site, and creating unique content are the best ways to raise your rank.
Quick Interesting Fact:
Like most people you may assume that Page in the term Page Rank refers to a website page. Larry Page and another Google founder, Sergy Brin, developed the Page Rank system. It is interesting to note that the system was not also named after Mr. Brin, however we wonder if the system would still have been named after Larry had his last name been Loser. A Loser Rank might not be something to brag about…
