AT&T Receives Low Blow From Obamacare

by admin on March 31, 2010

Obamacare strikes again! Why do Conservatives always have to be right? If I remember correctly, the Democrat party kept using the catch phrase, ” If you like the insurance you have now,you can keep it”.  The Republicans were the grown ups in the room that kept saying that was not true.  They warned that if insurance became a mandate by the government that companies would be forced to change the benefits they offered because it would be too expensive.  Did they listen?… of course not.  They passed it anyway “for our own good”.

AT&T now announced a $1 billion loss for the first quarter.  Yes, BILLION not million.  That is a number one with nine zeros behind it.  It looks like this, $1,000,000,000.00.  WOW, that’s huge!  To put this in perspective, AT&T netted a $3 billion profit last quarter.  So, they are now going to lose 33.3% of their profit because of Obamacare.  Is AT&T now more or less likely to hire more people and boost the economy?  Of course the answer is “less likely”.  At this rate, I doubt AT&T can afford to keep the employees they already have now. So, guess what they are now forced to do.  AT&T is renegotiating health care benefits with union contracted employees.  They are cutting back the health care benefits that people liked, because the company can not afford to give them the same health care the company could give them before Obamacare.  So much for the whole, “if you like your health insurance , then you can keep it” idea.

3M, Verizon, and Caterpillar have also announced large losses or warned employees that they should expect cuts to their health care plans due to Obamacare as well.  Its just terrible.  If only some one could have predicted this happening.  If only there were people that could have looked at this bill and could have warned us about what was going to happen.  Oh wait a second,  that’s right!  This is exactly what the Republicans said was going to happen.  It was just the Democrats that kept telling us it wouldn’t .

Thank you President Obama, Harry Reid, and Nancy Pelosi for making sure that everyone gets equally crappy health care.  Thank you for not listening to the voices of reason that tried to stop you from passing this law.  Thank you for screwing up the system for the 80% that were happy with their health care, and good luck getting reelected by the 20% of people that may or may not benefited from this legislation.  I will also thank you in advance for stepping aside when the American people elect different politicians to take over your current jobs.  The reason I am so grateful is because it will make replacing you guys so much easier.
