Last weekend Harry Reid met with a large group of illegal aliens at an illegal immigration rally in Las Vegas, Nevada. Senator Reid declared, “We’re going to come back, we’re going to have comprehensive immigration reform now”. He went on to explain that he believed he already had 56 votes of the 60 required to make the vote filibuster proof. So, he is just 4 votes shy of jamming amnesty for illegal aliens down our throats just like he did with Obamacare.
A new CNN pole reveals that 66% of people oppose giving amnesty to illegals. We would like to point out, that statistic is coming from a liberal source. So you can’t argue that the numbers have been tweaked in the Republican’s favor.
In the State of the Union address President Obama delivered a few months ago, he claimed to be focused on job creation. Since then the Democrats have been working around the clock to pass Obamacare. Now that they have done that, it appears they have shifted their focus to Amnesty. When exactly are Obama, Reid, and Pelosi going to do this whole job creation thing? It’s no wonder that 78% of Americans don’t trust the direction this new government is going.
Why does Harry Reid and other Democrats feel so strongly about amnesty? Are they empathetic toward the plight of the illegals? Looking at the totality of the circumstances in which the Democratic party currently finds itself, it seems empathy is the last thing on their minds. They are nervous about the upcoming election later this year. Many of the poles are indicating that the Democrats may be losing their current majority. Even Harry Reid’s odds of getting reelected are dropping like a stone. Reid likely looks at the 10 to 20 million illegal immigrants and sees unregistered Democrat voters. So, he knows its time for a “Hail Mary” play. He has governed completely contrary to the will of those that elected him and knows the only way he could possible stay in power is if a large group of people “owe him one”.
We suppose we should cut him a break on job creation legislation though. He is pretty busy passing laws to benefit himself so he can keep his power. It seems to be too much to ask that he do his job well enough to get reelected simply because the voters are pleased with his performance. So, at this point he has no other option, but to pull some underhanded tricks. Realistically, did we expect anything less?
We embrace and respect people from other countries, and in return we expect them to respect our laws. We deny convicted felons the right to vote and it is only appropriate to keep those who have entered our country illegally from having the power to choose our country’s leaders. Shame on you Harry Reid, and all other politicians (both Republican and Democrat) who only use their power to serve themselves and not the American people. It’s unfortunate so many people dream of kicking Harry Reid out of office by his hairy reed!
